Samsung AU7100 Overview
The Samsung AU7100 is a budget range of TV’s from Samsung. The models in the range come in screen sizes from 43 up to 85”. Slightly more expensive than other budget sets from Hisense and Toshiba, Samsung offers a mature and stable operating system replete with all the App support you’ll want, and also an established after-sales support presence which some other budget manufacturers lack. Going with a big name brand like Samsung also means you’re less likely to hit issues with reliability.
The picture quality on these TV’s are good, but not great. They come with HDR10+ but not Dolby Vision (not a great concern in itself, but read on..). Upscaling isn’t a particularly strong point and if you want good performance in this area you’ll probably need to spend a bit more. With HDR content, you’re not going to get the best contrast because the TV just isn’t bright enough. The blacks are more grey than black. Ultimately, the picture performance is in line with the price of the TV.
Although the refresh rate is 50Hz, there’s a gaming mode which reduces input lag to 10ms, and also uses a feature called Motion Xcelerator technology that increases the panel refresh rate to 100 Hz. So at first glance it may not appear a great screen for gaming, but the gaming mode makes things a lot better. HDMI 2.0 only though.
Sound quality, as we often (always?) find ourselves saying isn’t great and if you want decent sound you’ll want a soundbar.

Summary
A good TV for the price. It’s not going to blow you away in any particular area but it’s a decent all rounder. If you want true HDR quality, you’ll need to pay a bit more.
